Church of the Holy Family
Location
1897 that the Church of the Holy Family of Haapiti in Moorea was built. It is a replica of Saint-Michel des Gambier cathedral in coral. Its silhouette with its two bell towers on a background of greenery and the mountain peak of Mou'aroa, continues to inspire many artists.
This site in the Varari valley constituted a center of Catholic influence, by the establishment in 1882 of a nursery of katekita, local catechists, intended to go on a mission to the Tuamotu Islands.
The altar in the church garden was made with two old engraved stones.
